TV Licensing Laws

  • The TV license

The law on TV licensing changes today (1st September 2016), so make sure you don't get caught out. Until now a TV license was only required to watch live BBC content and you were able to watch on demand content without a license. Today they have closed this loophole and all BBC content now requires a TV license, whether it is live or on demand.

The TV license is also tied to the property for which it is purchased. So, even if you have a TV license at home, you are not able to view BBC content at work unless they have their own license.

This may not apply to many people, but if you don't have a TV license and have been using the BBC on demand services, make sure you know the new rules.
